Tokyo – October 29, 2007 – GMO Hosting & Security hosting brand, RapidSite, is providing the VPS Hosting service free to Newspaper Blog, an information literacy and media literacy program for elementary school students by Six Apart Inc. and the Ryoichi Matsuno Laboratory at the Chuo University Faculty of Policy Studies. The initiative is part of the GMO Internet Group companyfs community support effort. GMO-HS supports the improvement of childrenfs information literacy through the Newspaper Blog project. The Newspaper Blog Project
The Newspaper Blog project by Six Apart and Matsuno Laboratory aims to promote information literacy and media literacy education among elementary school students. Six Apart and Matsuno Laboratory jointly developed the software for elementary schools and now encourage the creation of newspaper blogs. By having students conduct their own interviews and research, write and create their own blog, the program aims to foster an interest in world news, teach critical thinking and develop software skills.@
The initiative began in March 2007 in two schools. The software developed for the project received a Good Design Award and has been widely acclaimed. Organizers aim to expand the program right throughout the country.
